How to Make Philly Cheesesteak Stromboli
Step 1: Cook the Beef and Vegetables
In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the thinly sliced steak and cook until browned, about 3-4 minutes. Add the onion and bell peppers, season with garlic powder, salt, and pepper, and continue to sauté until the vegetables are softened and the beef is cooked through, about 5 more minutes. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
Step 3: Roll Out the Dough
On a lightly floured surface, roll out the pizza dough into a rectangle, approximately 12×16 inches. Aim for an even thickness so it cooks uniformly.
Step 4: Assemble the Stromboli
Spread the beef and vegetable mixture evenly over the dough, leaving a 1-inch border around the edges. Sprinkle the shredded provolone cheese on top of the filling.
Step 6: Brush and Score
Transfer the Stromboli to the prepared baking sheet. Brush the top with the beaten egg to give it a golden color when baked. Use a sharp knife to make a few small slits on the top of the Stromboli to allow steam to escape.
Step 7: Bake
Bake in the preheated oven for about 20-25 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is hot and bubbly.
