– 1 lb ground beef (80% lean for juiciness)
– 1/2 lb ground pork (adds flavor and moisture)
– 1 cup breadcrumbs (preferably fresh)
– 1/2 cup milk (to soak the breadcrumbs)
– 1 small onion, finely chopped
– 2 cloves garlic, minced
– 1 large egg
– 1/2 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese (plus more for topping)
– 1 tablespoon fresh thyme leaves (or 1 teaspoon dried thyme)
– 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
– 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
