Someone with Bulging Veins: What It Could Mean and When to Be Concerned
What Are Bulging Veins?
Bulging veins, also known as prominent or enlarged veins, are veins that rise above the skin’s surface and become visibly swollen. They may appear bluish or purple, and are most often seen on:
- The arms and hands
- The legs and feet
- The forehead or temples (less commonly)
Common Causes of Bulging Veins
1. Exercise and Physical Activity
During intense physical activity, blood flow increases and muscles expand — temporarily pushing veins closer to the surface. This is especially common in bodybuilders or athletes.
