After three months with no winner, the jackpot has soared to an estimated $1.6 billion. The last jackpot reached $1.78 billion in September and was split between winners in Missouri and Texas.
Powerball said this is the second time in history that back-to-back jackpots have produced prizes over $1 billion.
Any lottery winner has to pay the 24% federal tax on their winnings, but since Florida does not have an income tax, that’s the only tax you’d have to pay.
The next Powerball drawing will be Monday, Dec. 22 at 10:59 p.m.
