Thrombosis occurs when blood clots abnormally in a vessel. Several factors contribute to this situation: prolonged immobility, dehydration, smoking, certain chronic diseases, or hormonal treatments. The body sometimes tries to dissolve these clots naturally, but this mechanism is not always enough. The clot then grows and blocks circulation. This obstruction poses a direct threat to the surrounding tissues, which no longer receive enough oxygen.
