That uncertainty becomes its own form of pain. Hope, in this space, is both essential and cruel. It keeps the family going, gives them the strength to speak publicly and plead for answers—but it also sharpens the fear with every passing moment. To hope means to imagine Nancy alive somewhere, scared and alone. To stop hoping feels unthinkable. So they exist in between, clinging to belief while bracing for devastation.
