The Steven Sund response to Nancy Pelosi came as Trump announced new security measures in the capital. The president described the plan as “liberation day” for the city.

Under the plan, the federal government will temporarily control the Metropolitan Police Department. The authority will last for 30 days under the Home Rule Act.

Additionally, the administration plans to deploy National Guard troops from Washington and other states. Pete Hegseth said the troops will assist local and federal officers.
