To understand the depth of the Guthrie family’s loss is to understand Nancy Guthrie herself. Throughout the interview, Savannah reflected on the woman who raised her—a mother she described as granite strong. Nancy had steered the family through the sudden loss of Savannah’s father 26 years ago, setting aside her own grief to ensure her children could pursue their dreams.
“She’s the reason I’ve accomplished anything at all in life,” Savannah noted, recalling how Nancy gave her permission to go when she was offered a job in Montana years ago. “If you can’t leave me, then I didn’t do my job right,” Nancy had told her then. Now, that same strength is being tested in the most cruel way imaginable. Nancy, a woman of unshakeable faith and a beloved grandmother to Savannah’s children, Vale and Charley, is now the subject of an international search involving the FBI and Pima County Sheriff’s Department.
