It sat abandoned on the shoulder beneath a pair of dim streetlights, their flicker more noticeable than their glow. The engine was off, the headlights dark, and the windows were fogged up from the inside, as if someone had been sitting there for hours. There was no movement. No sign of distress. The car was simply there, motionless, like it had been left behind.
Most drivers who noticed it simply drove on. People rarely stop on roads like that, especially after dark. The isolation makes everyone cautious. But eventually, one driver slowed down, uneasy at the eerie stillness. Something about the car felt wrong. No hazard lights. No sign of anyone moving. No indication of help being needed.
They pulled over to investigate.
