The trouble began late on March 22, when an Air Canada flight declared an emergency after flight attendants reported feeling ill due to a strange odor in the cabin.

“2384 is declaring an emergency… Flight Attendants in the back are feeling ill because of the odor. We will need to go into any available gates at this time.”

What followed was a series of complications. There was no available gate. Communication between teams became increasingly urgent, yet solutions remained unclear.

“Do you guys have any gate… because now it’s declaring an emergency, they want to get out.”

As time passed, contingency plans were discussed—stair access, emergency vehicles, evacuation possibilities. The crew, aware of the situation inside the cabin, preferred to wait for a gate but made it clear time was running out.

“Let me know if you do want to evacuate.”
