In 2019, after Epstein’s arrest, a tip reportedly suggested that the remains of potential victims could be buried on the land. Despite the seriousness of that claim, the Federal Bureau of Investigation did not carry out a comprehensive excavation or detailed search of the site at the time.
The current investigation is designed to address those gaps. Lawmakers are not only examining the property itself but also reviewing why earlier state-level inquiries may have been constrained. Questions about jurisdiction, coordination, and decision-making between federal and local agencies are now central to the probe, raising broader concerns about accountability.
