This health scare was not Roker’s first encounter with medical adversity, but it was undoubtedly his most significant. Over the years, he has been an open book regarding his physical challenges, from a 2020 diagnosis of aggressive prostate cancer to multiple surgeries for hip and knee replacements. Yet, Roker has always met these obstacles with a grit that defies his age. Only months before his 2022 hospitalization, he had completed the Brooklyn Half Marathon, a feat his doctors later credited as a primary reason for his survival. They noted that had he not been in such peak physical condition, his body likely would not have withstood the trauma of the internal bleeding and subsequent surgeries.
