Dirty or Scratched Glasses? How to Restore and Care for Your Glasses Like a Pro
Let’s dive into some helpful tips and tricks for cleaning your glasses, as well as advice on how to deal with scratches—so your eyewear can stay in top condition!
How to Clean Dirty Glasses: The Right Way
Before tackling scratches, let’s first look at how to properly clean your glasses to get rid of dirt, fingerprints, and smudges.
Step 2: Use a Lens Cleaner or Dish Soap
Apply a few drops of lens cleaner or mild dish soap to your lenses. Make sure the soap is free from any harsh chemicals, such as bleach or ammonia, which could damage the lens coating. Gently rub the lenses with your fingers to remove any smudges. Be sure to clean both sides of the lenses, as well as the frames.
Step 3: Rinse Again
Rinse your glasses under lukewarm water to remove the soap. If you’re using a lens cleaner, spray it directly on the lenses and wipe them gently with a microfiber cloth.
Step 5: Clean the Frames
Don’t forget about the frames! Use the same microfiber cloth or a soft cloth to wipe down the frames, paying close attention to the nose pads and the areas behind the ears. These areas can collect oils from your skin that will make your glasses feel greasy if not cleaned regularly.
