A quiet town in northern Italy is mourning after a tragic accident took the life of 15-year-old figure skater Matilda Ferrari.

The incident happened Monday morning in Val Rendena, in the Trentino region.

According to early reports, the teenager was on her way to school when she was struck by a cement truck near a crosswalk close to her home.

Emergency teams arrived quickly, including paramedics and rescue crews, and a helicopter was also dispatched to assist.

Despite all efforts, she could not be saved.
