They Said They Did Not Recognize My Grandson Until I Responded

knowing I was setting it in motion. I had thought this was a story about saying no and protecting my family and establishing the basic dignity of being treated as a person rather than a resource. I had not thought it might also be about exposing a pattern that went back much further than my own experience of it.
